From 1996 to 2026: Thirty Years of the Iqra Foundation

What began in 1996 as one man's mission of service has become two campuses and more than 2000 alumni. Here is the story of the Iqra Foundation.

For over 30 years, the Iqra Foundation has been shaping young minds. In 2026 we celebrate three decades of educating and serving — and a new chapter.

A soldier's second mission

After serving his nation with honour and discipline in the Pakistan Army, Lt. Col. (Retd.) Munawwar Khan chose another mission — education and service to humanity. He believed education must go beyond academic success: it must build character, knowledge, purpose and the courage to serve others.

“Move forward and upward in the service of humanity.”

From one school to two campuses

The first school opened its doors in 1996. Since then, Iqra has grown to two thriving campuses — the Adiala Road Campus, running through to SSC, and the Gulshan-e-Abad Campus — with more than 2000 alumni across three decades.

2026: the organic childhood ecosystem

In 2026 we expanded again with a new campus under the Iqra Sawera Foundation, pioneering an organic learning approach for the next generation. Led by Founder & Executive Director Saira Munawwar, it brings together nature-based learning, real Montessori, Islamic values and life skills.

A project of service

Iqra International School System is a project of the Iqra Foundation — Sawera Educational & Welfare Society, a registered NGO working in education and welfare: building futures, strengthening communities and serving humanity.
